💬 A note on coins and keeping MiM free

We know in-game currencies can raise eyebrows, so here's where we stand.

Make it Meme has been free for 5 years. We want to keep it that way. But keeping a game alive on ads alone is a real challenge, and if you've watched other games try to solve this problem, you know how badly it can go. Some go from free to aggressive paywalls overnight and alienate the communities that built them. We don't want to be that game.

That's why coins were in a quiet beta for 2 months before this launch. We collected real feedback from real players, and it changed what we shipped. The biggest example: based on your feedback, we brought back the meme changes setting instead of replacing it with coin-based changes.

We're a team of five people making a silly meme game, and we take your trust seriously. If anything ever feels off, just tell us on Discord or wherever. We're listening, and we'll keep listening.

🎨 Mix Multiple Meme Packs!

The biggest new feature: You can now mix and play with multiple meme packs at the same time!

Instead of picking just one pack, you can now select multiple packs and get memes from all of them combined during gameplay. This is a game changer for smaller meme packs (around 30 templates) since they feel way less repetitive when mixed with others.

This also makes creating your own custom packs more fun! You're no longer forced to build massive collections just to make them playable. Create a small themed pack and mix it with an official one to see your templates get shuffled in—it's super fun!

Free users can select up to 2 meme packs at a time, while paid members can select up to 10 packs for maximum variety.

🔐 Public Chat Now Requires an Account

Starting today, you'll need to be signed in to chat in Public Lobbies. We know some of you won't like this change, but here's why we're doing it.

Dealing with spam and toxic behavior without accounts has been challenging. Troublemakers keep coming back anonymously, making it hard to enforce our community guidelines effectively. Requiring accounts for public chat lets us actually address these issues and create a safer environment for everyone.

The good news: Signing up is completely free, takes 2 minutes, and unlocks features like adding friends, stats, achievements, saving memes, and more. Private Lobbies work exactly as before.

• 👥 Lobby Player List: You can now view all players currently in your lobby directly from the in-game menu. This makes it easy to add friends, report players and manage your lobby

Great news everyone: Private Lobby chat is officially back online! We know the current chat filter situation was super frustrating and not fun anymore, blocking almost everything you tried to write. We heard you loud and clear.

We built our own filter system from scratch, made just for Make it Meme. The old one is gone, so things should be way better now. We want the game to be fun and safe, while still letting you chat and joke around normally.

🚨 Nicknames Getting Blocked for No Reason?

We know many of you have been frustrated with our content filter being overly aggressive lately, blocking harmless nicknames and account names for no apparent reason. We hear you, and know that can be annoying.

We've rolled out a fix this morning that should resolve most of these issues. Harmless nicknames should no longer get blocked by our filter system.

💬 Private Lobby Chat Temporarily Disabled

While we continue working on improving our content filtering system, we've made the tough decision to temporarily disable chat in Private Lobbies. Don't worry though, you can still play and create memes as usual! Public lobbies continue to work normally with chat enabled.

We know this isn't ideal, but as a small team, we're working hard to get these improvements rolled out as quickly as possible. We want to make Make it Meme the best experience it can be for everyone.

We've made some recent changes to improve your gaming experience:

• The public lobby chat on Poki has been temporarily removed
• We've deployed a new, more sophisticated chat filter
• The new system is currently more sensitive to potential inappropriate content as we fine-tune it
• We're aware that message authors can't currently see when their messages are blocked - we're working on fixing this
• We are working hard on bringing back the chat to Poki soon
